Welcome to Kate Summers Pilates

Welcome to Kate Summers Pilates. I’m an Accredited Level 3 Certified Pilates Teacher with a Sport and Exercise Science Degree. I have a certification in Pre/Post Natal Pilates and Orthopaedic Conditions.

I have been in the Health and Fitness Industry for over 20 years. I joined Holmes Place (currently Virgin Active) in Notting Hill on a graduate scheme when I was 21, after completing my degree. I began as a Fitness Instructor and I taught many Fitness Classes, including Body Pump, Body Balance and RPM.

Having battled and beaten back Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a chronic pain condition that once stripped me of my mobility and livelihood, I bring a perspective no textbook or certification can replicate. Competitors might boast credentials or years of experience, but how many have lived through the fire of a debilitating illness and emerged stronger?

My journey from a wheelchair to teaching Mat Pilates gives me an unmatched empathy and insight, especially for clients dealing with pain, injury, or physical limitations. I don’t just teach Pilates—I embody its potential to heal.
Proven Results from a Unique Perspective of my own triumph over CRPS is my strongest testimonial. I went from barely walking to teaching full classes, a feat backed by my clients’ stories of regained mobility, reduced pain, and renewed confidence. My results are specific and relatable—whether it’s a client with fibromyalgia finding relief or a weekend warrior recovering from a knee injury. My classes aren’t about chasing trends; it’s about delivering outcomes, informed by my personal victory and ongoing research into movement therapy.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is great for lengthening and strengthening muscles. It helps improve flexibility, muscle imbalances, posture, co-ordination and good breathing technique.

Many Pilates exercises are designed to strengthen the centre of the body. The central area includes the abdominal muscles, lower back muscles, pelvic floor, the muscles in the hips and the gluteal muscles. Strengthening these muscles will create a stable core and a stronger back. Having a strong core will take pressure out of your lower back and other joints, which can help reduce the risk of injury. Back pain often comes from poor posture, Pilates can help re-align your spine and improve your posture.

Pilates is a gentle form of exercise, the better you understand your body and how it works, the easier it will be for you to release tension and stress. Pilates is recommended by leading Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and Osteopaths.

Mixed Ability Pilates

Mixed ability classes are aimed at all levels. A little faster-paced than Gentle flow classes with a twist of fitness Pilates, however this class is suitable for beginners. Adaptations and modifications are provided to suit individual needs. The classes are run in a fun and friendly environment.

Gentle Flow Pilates

Gentle flow classes are designed for those who wish to work at a more gentle pace. Strengthening the core to stabilise the spine. Strengthening joints and ligaments while improving mobility and flexibility in the entire body.

Chair Pilates

This routine focuses on improving posture, core strength, flexibility, and gentle movement—all while seated. It’s suitable for beginners, those with limited mobility, or anyone looking for a low-impact workout.

Testimonials

Kate Summers is amazing. Tried many classes over the years plus a personal trainer. She is aware of all her participants in class frailties and weaknesses advises appropriately and accordingly. Her sessions are also varied thus they are not boring. Essentially she is excellent. In a very short time my sciatica has improved. Well done Kate.Sara

I started Kate's Pilates classes a year ago, and am enjoying them so much. She makes every class enjoyable, even though it can be very hard work, but she is great at gently motivating us. The class is for mixed abilities but there are different levels of each exercise, so you can find a level that suits you, and then start challenging yourself. I now have far less problems with my back, feel fitter, and actively look forward to each class, which is not something I thought I would ever say about an exercise class!

Following a spinal fracture I contacted Kate and I am very pleased to say after a year of 1:1 sessions I see a great improvement. My strength, ability and flexibility have come on leaps and bounds. Kate’s super ability to assess individuals, motivate and encourage you in manageable steps is greatly appreciated. Kate has now got me ( at 77 years) hooked on Pilates and spurred me on no end!

We do Pilates with weights!!!

Thank you Kate! You truly are a super woman!

- Ami

I'm so happy that I found Kate Summers Pilates classes. I have chronic fatigue and my weekly classes have been pivotal in building up my strength again after months and months of no exercise at all. In just a few weeks, I went from needing a chair during the warm up to being able to do the movements in full.

Kate has a deep understanding of chronic health issues and her classes are incredibly welcoming. She makes everyone feel it's OK to do what we can and tailors the sessions so we still get a workout but in a safe way.
